Sunday Morning Speculation and Songs

Let me start off by saying that ESPN and are not only contributing to the inevitable East Coast bias, but they’re also lazy journalists. The 49ers haven’t beaten anyone, Jim Harbaugh deserves “all the credit”, and my personal favorite: Alex Smith is a game manager. All of these are claims are just plain lazy. There is far more than meets the eye with the Red & God. Let’s refresh ourselves:

No Brees at Candlestick

Can you believe it? Somebody pinch me. The 49ers are hosting the NFC Championship for the first time in 20 years. And the future couldn’t look any brighter.

Saturday’s Divisional Game against the New Orleans Saints was an instant classic. In fact, that was the best 49ers game I’ve ever seen. It had everything you could possibly ask for in a playoff game:

Memories of Montana’s magic.

Whispers of Walsh’s wisdom.

Echoes of the Eighties exaltations.

Candlestick was shaking harder than the ’89 World Series earthquake. And this nostalgia never felt so good.

Oh When the Saints Go Marching In…

It sure was satisfying to see tools Jim Schwartz & Ndamukong Suh bounced from the playoffs by Drew Brees’ high flying offense. But by the same token, I don’t welcome the New Orleans Saints to Candlestick at all. In my humble opinion, I think the Saints are the best team in the NFL when they’re executing. They are an unstoppable force.

The 49ers should be patting themselves on the back for taking care of business during the regular season. Earning the #2 seed is already proving to be the difference-maker in this game. If this match-up was to be played in the Louisiana Superdome, then the 49ers would almost certainly lose. But its not. There hasn’t been a playoff game at The Stick in a decade. Fans will be rabid and you can bet your bottom dollar that Justin Smith & Company are ready to bring the noise too.

Mr. Brees, you’ve been warned. The 49ers are an immovable object. Proceed with caution because you’re walking into a shitstorm. Pardon my Cajun French.

Wildcard Weekend Picks

Still nursing that New Year’s hangover? Take a load off. 2012 just might be your year.

  • The 49ers have a 1st round bye.
  • Buster Posey is back to taking BP and throwing.
  • Michele Bachmann dropped her presidential bid.
  • Katy Perry is back on the market.
  • LeBron James is off the market (I guess he’s finally getting a ring).
  • And Sonoma-native “Ben F.” from The Bachelor, may or may not be on the market. And don’t be so quick to jump down my throat for posting about The Bachelor. His biography on asks his favorite sports team. His response: “San Francisco Giants, the only team that matters.” I could get into this. But I digress…
